CloudPost: SIOS Technology Releases Premier SQL Server High Availability Survey Results

June 24, 2014 by Margaret Hoagland Leave a Comment

Image -- CloudPost LogoSIOS Technology just issued the results of its premier SQL Server High Availability survey of large corporations in the United States (76%) and Europe (9%).  The survey elicited responses from 191 IT professionals across a wide range of vertical industries to understand current trends and challenges related to providing high availability (HA) and disaster protection (DR) for SQL Server.

Specific areas covered by the survey, included identifying the most important challenges to providing HA and DR; understanding the costs of HA and DR for SQL Server; and determining the plans and priorities for 2014/2015.

Storage Swiss: Clustered HA Storage for the Masses

June 20, 2014 by <a href="http://storageswiss.com/2014/06/20/clustered-ha-storage-for-masses/">Colm Keegan</a> Leave a Comment

Many organizations rely on large databases, such as SQL Server, SAP, and Oracle, to run their most mission critical business applications. But the cost of implementing application high availability (HA) and continuous data protection through a clustered storage infrastructure in these environments can be cost prohibitive. SIOS Technology claims to have a clustered storage solution that will ensure HA for mission critical applications such as SQL Server, SAP, and Oracle with no data loss, at a much lower total cost of ownership than conventional clustered, shared storage offerings…

Cloud Computing Journal: The Facts About Cloud High Availability and Disaster Recovery

April 22, 2014 by <a href="/tag/disaster-recovery-journal/">Disaster Recovery Journal</a> Leave a Comment

Enterprises are moving more and more applications to the cloud. Gartner predicts that the bulk of new IT spending by 2016 will be for cloud computing platforms and applications and that nearly half of large enterprises will have cloud deployments by the end of 2017.
The far-reaching impact of cloud computing is summarized in a recent McKinsey report on disruptive technologies: “Cloud technology has the potential to improve productivity across $3 trillion in global enterprise IT spending, as well as enabling the creation of new online products and services for billions of consumers and millions of businesses alike.”

For many organizations, moving applications that can tolerate brief periods of downtime to the cloud is a straightforward decision with clear benefits. However, concerns about how to provide high availability and disaster protection in the cloud may make this decision more difficult for business-critical applications such as SQL, SAP, and Exchange. Understanding the facts about HA and DR in the cloud can help you make informed decisions about moving applications to the cloud, while ensuring the important business operations that depend on them are protected from downtime and data loss.

eWeek: To SAN or Not to SAN: 10 Questions to Ask Before You Commit

Image -- eWeek LogoCompanies are finding new ways to combine physical, virtual and cloud environments to control costs in new-generation data centers. Traditional clusters based on shared storage (namely, storage area networks) are no longer the de facto choice for protecting business-critical applications in these new environments. SAN-less cluster packages, which are able to pool a large amount of unstructured data across a variety of storage configurations, have attributes that work well for both new-gen and older IT systems. These features enable data center managers to utilize the flexibility and cost savings of cloud, virtual and high-performance storage, and mixed infrastructures without sacrificing availability or disaster protection for business-critical applications. This eWEEK slide show, using industry insight from Jerry Melnick, chief operating officer of San Mateo, Calif.-based SIOS, presents 10 questions to ask that will help determine if a SAN-less cluster solution is right for your enterprise. SIOS makes both SAN and SAN-less software that protects data and applications from downtime.
